Set global default Document Content Search Options in the <Tools/Options/Document Content Search> item of the Desktop menu bar.
The features provides the ability to index the full content of most electronic documents and maintain them automatically, (i.e. Word, Excel or PowerPoint files). To search the full content of a document as part of a Full Text Search a user must include the full content index in the search.
Tip:
Document content indexing must be enabled before a full text search of an electronic document's content can be performed. Document content indexing can be enabled as a global property or the property of a Drawer.
Documents from Microsoft Office 2007 products that are saved in .docx or .xlsx format can be saved to DocuXplorer but cannot be full content searched. In Office 2007 change the Save options to default to Word or Excel 97-2003 format which will be indexed when Content Searches are enabled.
PDF documents are not full content searchable unless they have been OCR'd in Acrobat and the Extract Text function of DocuXplorer has been applied.
Setting application defaults is an Administrator function and can only be changed by users with Administrator permissions.
These defaults effect only new DocuXplorer Drawers. Any Drawer created prior to a change in these defaults will need to be set in the existing Drawer's Properties Dialogue.
Document Content Search allows you to index the full content of electronic documents such as Word, Excel, or PowerPoint files.
Tip:
If a document is in a binary format such as a media file or graphic file, the file information is ignored by the indexing engine. For example, PDF files store their viewable image as a graphical representation and the text portion in a proprietary compressed format. As both of these are in binary format they can not be used as searchable text by DocuXplorer. Files like Word, Excel, or WordPerfect store their content information as uncompressed text and allow DocuXplorer to index their content information
Document Content Search options can be changed for each Drawer as a property of the object. The default setting for Document Content Search is "off".

Tip:
If you set DocuXplorer to enable Document Content Search and maintain the index automatically, the process of adding imported documents will slow to accommodate the content indexing process. If imported documents consist of a few pages the slow down will not be noticeable. You can still enable Full Content Indexing but choose to manually maintain the index. To manually maintain the content index uncheck the item Maintain Automatically but still have the Enable Search Option checked. You can then manually start the content indexing by selecting the Perform Maintenance menu item from the Drawer Right Click Menu..
