In the Scanning Preview Window/Advanced Tab:
This command allows you to change the default scanning resolution. To set a specific scanning resolution you would choose from the selections available.

Your choices for scanning preferences are:
Specifies compression of scanned documents without loss of data. Best display quality results in largest relative file size.
Specifies optimal file compression combined with optimal image clarity.
Specifies high compression for scanned documents. High compression may result in discarded non-recoverable data, lower image resolution, and degraded document display.
Custom settings let you specify detailed scan options, such as compression type, bit order, and resolution, for different color-type documents.

Tip:
Scanning at very high resolution will create very large image files that will quickly fill your storage space. Images should be scanned in at resolutions that reflect their output or usage to keep file size as small as possible.
Context sensitive help is available for all scanning preference items. click the item you need help with and use your right mouse button to bring up the "What’s this?" button. click the button and a popup box will display the information explaining that control.
